Mark your calendars for March 18-22, 2024, as both the women’s and men’s tournaments will unfold simultaneously in this vibrant Canadian city.
This announcement marks a significant return for Canada as hosts of the Indoor Pan American Championships, with the last edition held in 2005 in Waterloo, Ontario. Since then, the tournament has traversed through various countries including Argentina, Venezuela, Uruguay, and Guyana. The 2021 edition took place in Pennsylvania, USA, adding to the rich tapestry of international hockey events.
Field Hockey Canada’s CEO, Susan Ahrens, expressed her enthusiasm about welcoming the Pan American countries to Alberta. She highlighted the importance of indoor hockey in the national hockey community and emphasized the inclusivity of the sport’s development across the country. Ahrens also underlined the privilege for Canadian athletes to compete at home, buoyed by the support of passionate fans.
Moreover, this tournament holds even greater significance as it serves as a qualifier for the Indoor World Cup. The number of teams advancing from the Pan Americas in both the women’s and men’s divisions will be determined by the FIH. Canada’s previous achievements in indoor hockey include the men’s team qualifying for the Indoor World Cup in 2015, and the women’s team securing a commendable eighth place at the 2023 FIH Indoor World Cup in South Africa.
